Privacy Policy
Dooboo ("the app", "we", "us") is a Korean learning app made by BulletPrep LLC. This policy explains what the app collects, why, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. If you have a question, write to alexsyeo@gmail.com.
The short version
- Your progress is saved to an account so you don't lose it. You don't have to sign in: the app makes an anonymous account the first time you open it. You can sign in with Apple or Google to keep your progress on a new phone.
- Your cat runs on AI. To reply to you, the app sends what you say and write, and what you've told your cat, to AI providers (OpenAI and Google). The app asks you before any of that happens.
- We use analytics (PostHog) to see how the app is used and where it breaks. Analytics never include what you type or say.
- We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- You can delete your account and everything saved to it from inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete account.
What we collect
Your account
- An account ID, made when you first open the app.
- If you sign in with Apple or Google: the email address they share with us. Apple lets you hide your email; then we get a relay address.
What you tell your cat
During setup and later, you can tell your cat about yourself so lessons fit your life. All of it is optional:
- your name, where you live and whether you live in Korea, whether you study or work and what, and your age;
- how you rate your Korean, your interests and what you like about them;
- what you and your cat call each other, and the people you speak Korean with (for example "my mom");
- your cat's name and look.
What you do in the app
- Your answers in lessons and reviews, including what you said (as text) and what you typed.
- Words and sentences you saved, your journal entries, notes from your chats, your cat's diary pages, your notebook, game scores, and the days you practiced.
- In Watch together: the name of the show (if you enter it) and the lines your cat caught.
Your voice
- When you practice speaking, your voice is sent to be turned into text, live, while you talk.
- In Watch together, the app records the show's audio on your phone while you watch. When you tap "What did they say?", only the last 15 seconds are sent, to find and explain that line. The recording never leaves your phone otherwise, and it's deleted when you stop.
- We don't keep recordings of your voice. What you said is kept as text, as part of your progress.
Feedback
- If you send feedback from Settings: your message, your account ID, the app version and your phone's system version.
Usage and diagnostics
- Which screens you open and what you do in the app (for example, starting or finishing a lesson), your phone model and system version, the app version, and crash reports. These are linked to your account ID.
- Coarse facts about you as a learner: your interests, how you rated your Korean, how many days you've practiced, whether reminders are on, and whether you've signed in.
- Analytics never include your name or anything you typed or said.
- [If PostHog's "Discard client IP data" stays off: your approximate location (city and country), worked out from your IP address. Recommended: turn that setting on and delete this line.]
What stays on your phone
- Reminders are scheduled on your phone; we don't receive a push token.
- Home screen widgets and the Lock Screen's Watch together activity read from the app on your phone.
Why we use it
- To run the app: keep your account, save and restore your progress, and make lessons, conversations and reviews.
- To personalize it: sentences, conversations and your cat's chat are built around your interests, your life and what you've learned.
- To improve it: analytics and crash reports show us what's confusing, slow or broken.
- To answer you: when you send feedback or write to us.
We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't sell or rent it.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the services that run the app, and only what each needs:
| Service | What for | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore) | Your account and saved progress | Account ID, email if you signed in, your progress, feedback |
| Our server (hosted on Railway) | Passes requests between the app and the AI providers | What each AI request needs (below) |
| OpenAI | Live captions of your speech, the voices you hear | Your voice while you speak, text to be read aloud |
| Google (Gemini) | Lessons, conversations, your cat's replies, transcription | What you said and wrote, what you've told your cat, the words and grammar you know, short Watch together clips |
| PostHog | Analytics and crash reports | Usage and diagnostics (above) |
| Expo | Delivering app updates | App and system version |
| Apple, Google | Signing in, if you choose to | What their sign-in sheet shows you |
| RevenueCat, Apple | Subscriptions, if you buy one | Your account ID, purchases and subscription status |
AI providers receive your data through their APIs. Under their API terms they don't use it to train their models, and they may keep it for a limited time to detect abuse (OpenAI: up to 30 days). [Confirm the Gemini key is on a paid, billing-enabled project: Google's free tier may use data to improve its products.]
Our server doesn't store what you send. Its logs, kept for a limited time for troubleshooting, hold timing, sizes and errors, never what you said or wrote.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the app's users or ourselves. If the app is sold or merged, your data would go to the new owner under this policy.
How long we keep it
- Your account and saved progress: until you delete your account.
- Feedback: until we've read it and acted on it, at most two years.
- Analytics: up to seven years.
- Server logs: a limited time, for troubleshooting.
Your choices and rights
- Delete everything: Settings → Account → Delete account. That deletes your account and your saved progress. Analytics tied to your account ID can't be traced to you once the account is gone; to have them deleted too, write to alexsyeo@gmail.com.
- Start over: Settings → Reset progress clears this phone. If you're signed in, signing out leaves your progress saved to your account.
- Fix or see your data: most of what you've told your cat can be changed in the app (Settings → Your interests, your cat's page). For a copy of your data, write to alexsyeo@gmail.com.
- Microphone and notifications: turn them off any time in iOS Settings. Reminders can also be turned off in the app.
- Where you live may give you more rights (for example in the EU, UK or California): to access, correct, delete or move your data, to object to how it's used, and to complain to your data protection authority. Write to alexsyeo@gmail.com and we'll answer within 30 days. We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Children
The app is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, write to alexsyeo@gmail.com and we'll delete their data.
Security and where data is stored
Data travels encrypted (HTTPS). Your saved progress can be read only by your account. Our providers store data in the United States and other countries where they operate.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
